Conventionned thermal treatments

1.Request for coverage

Start by consulting your doctor

It is your attending physician who must prescribe a 18-day consecutive thermal treatment. He will provide you with a coverage form indicating the therapeutic orientation and the desired thermal station.

Please note that you can benefit from a dual orientation in order to treat multiple conditions (such as eczema and asthma). Simply ask your doctor to specify it on the coverage request.

Fill out and sign the income declaration, which will determine whether or not a portion of the accommodation and transportation expenses will be reimbursed.

Once your coverage request is completed, send it to your health insurance fund before your departure.

Reimbursement

Reimbursement conditions for thermal treatments

Unlike thalassotherapy treatments, thermal cures are among the services that can be reimbursed by health insurance.

Coverage conditions

Health insurance reimbursement is subject to conditions.

Thermal center responsabilities

The thermal center must be accredited and approved by the French health insurance scheme (Assurance maladie) for the treatments prescribed. The Thermes de Saint-Gervais are accredited for dermatology, ENT (respiratory tract) and AMB (mouth disorders).

Patient responsabilities

The patient must :

Ask for a medical prescription from their GP (general practitioner or specialist) mentioning the course of treatment. In the case of oral diseases, the prescription may be made by a dental surgeon, and the dual therapy must be specified on the coverage claim application (CERFA form)
Apply to your health insurance fund for reimbursement, fill in the declaration of resources, choose an approved centre and book your stay with the spa...
Carry out the entire cure (18 days) continuously. The cure must be followed in its entirety unless interrupted by the consulting physician or in case of a major impediment on the part of the patient.

Only one cure is authorised per calendar year (except in the case of burns, where two cures per year are reimbursed).
The duration of a cure is set at 18 days of treatment (i.e. 21 consecutive days) and the number of treatment sessions must be specified.

Curists with long term conditions and work-related accidents have 100% of the contractual fee covered, but will have to pay the additional fee to the centre.
Only CMU-c and ACS beneficiaries are exempted from this charge, providing they can produce their certificate.

Reimbursement for medical expenses: open to all

The French Assurance Maladie covers medical expenses related to the cure including:

  • - The thermal package for the actual thermal treatments: contractual rate from 453.67€, reimbursable at a rate of 65% to 100%.
  • - The medical surveillance package at 149€, payable to the thermal therapist, reimbursable at a rate of 70% to 100%.
  • - Almost all complementary medical insurance companies cover the remaining part, often in the form of a lump sum, (with the possibility of direct payment for some patients, which saves the need to advance costs).
  • - Accommodation and transport costs may be covered at a rate of up to 65% of a fixed amount set by the medical insurance (“assurance maladie”), depending on resources, (e.g. annual income of less than €14 664.38 for a single person).

A specific case is made for people with long-term illnesses (cancer, burns, etc).

When it is related to a long-term illness, your cure and your medical fees, are covered at a rate of 100%, based on the contractual fees:
You can receive an allowance of 150 € for your transport and accommodation costs, under conditions of resources.

Expenses that are not covered by the medical insurance:

- The co-payment fee: part of the medical expenses which is not covered by the Assurance Maladie.
It may, however, be covered by your complementary medical insurance.
- Comfort treatments (e.g. treatments at the Spa Source).
- Meals during the cure.
- Accommodation if the patient's income exceeds the threshold (e.g.: €14,664.38 annual income for a single person)

Daily Allowances

Daily allowances may be paid subject to income (e.g.: Social Security cap is €34,620) or according to their work situation (accident at work or work-related illness) or therapeutic situation (long term illness). If the insured has already stopped working during the cure, the daily allowance is maintained.
